What dB Filter Should I Order?

A Guide to Filtered Musicians’ Earplugs

If you're ordering filtered earplugs, choosing the right dB reduction level is key. It’s not just about volume — it’s about preserving clarity while protecting your hearing.

The Quick Breakdown

  • 9 dB Filters  Light protection. Good for low-volume environments or acoustic sets.  Not always enough for louder gigs or extended exposure.

  • 15 dB Filters  The sweet spot. Most gigging musicians and sound engineers choose this level.  It reduces harmful volume without killing the mix — vocals, instruments, and ambient sound stay clear.

  • 25 dB Filters  Heavy-duty protection.  Great for industrial use or extreme volume situations, but not ideal for live music — it muffles almost everything, like wearing solid plugs.

Our Recommendation

If you're playing on stage, mixing front-of-house, or working in loud venues:  Go with the 15 dB filters.  They strike the best balance between protection and performance.

Why It Matters

Hearing damage is cumulative — and permanent.  If your ears are ringing after a gig, that’s not just fatigue. That’s your body saying, “Hey, we’re not built for this.”

Protect your hearing now, so you can keep doing what you love for years to come.
